How to Replace an Air Purifier Filter

Different air purifiers use air filters of varying shapes. Most of them use rectangular air filtration kits, but Honeywell also makes circular kits for its round-shaped air purifiers. The number of actual air filters also varies between air purifiers, although most of them have an activated carbon filter and a HEPA filter as the main air cleaning screens.

Step-by-step process of replacing an air purifier filter

Step 1: Switch off the air purifier and unplug the cable from the socket

Step 2: Take off the lid covering the filter kit compartment. In most air purifiers, the cover should pop right off without using any tool.

Step 3: Remove the mesh screen (if available), followed by the main air filtration kit.

Step 4: Clean the mesh screen if there’s one and let it dry. This is a good time to inspect and clean the empty filter kit compartment of any debris, hairs, and dirt. You may also take a few minutes to wipe down the entire air purifier, including the lid. Ensure that the air filter compartment is dry before proceeding to the next step. Always use a dry cloth to wipe down the air purifier and the filter compartment.

Step 5: Remove the new air filtration kit from its plastic wrappings and slide it in the compartment. Be sure to adhere to the recommended arrangement of the filters for maximum effectiveness. If the HEPA filter came out last when disassembling, you should place the new one first, followed by the carbon filter and the mesh screen.
